Engineering, Design and Feasibility Studies

Various engineering feasibility studies conducted for the Experimental and Full Field Development Phases between 2002 and 2007 to investigate towed pipeline or bundle installation techniques for the shallow water Kashagan development in the Caspian Sea.  Studies required to evaluate installation methods suitable for the environmentally sensitive but harsh and seasonally ice covered location.  The study included fabrication, launch and towing techniques for pipeline bundles to be towed over 80km and installation and trenching of the lines in shallow water, typically less than 5m.

Engineering and River Crossing

Land & Marine was contracted to provide a 300 Tonne linear winch, pull wire, engineering and personnel to install pipelines through twin 800m long tunnels constructed under the Kura River in Azerbaijan.  The 46” and 42” pipelines were constructed for the BTC and SCP projects.

BTC and SCP River Crossings.  Consultancy services for open cut crossing of the Kura West and HDD crossing of the Kura East in Georgia.  The 46” and 42” pipelines were under construction for the BTC and SCP projects.

Qeshm Island Crossings and Sealines.  Study and budget costs for installation of 8No. x 10km crossings from the mainland to Qeshm Island and the installation of SPMs and tanker loading lines from Qeshm Island out to sea.

Engineering, Design and Feasibility Studies

Desk study to investigate shallow-water construction techniques for installation of pipelines in the environmentally sensitive and harsh environment of the Caspian Sea.  Included a site visit to Kazakhstan, route survey and an assessment of the logistical support available in the region.

Tanker Terminal SPM, Sealine, Trenching and Onshore Pipeline

Installation of a 3.8km x 914mm dia oil loading pipeline and PLEM to an existing Conventional Buoy Mooring at Mina Saud.  The work included the fabrication of the pipeline, bottom pull into a 1.6km pre-dredged inshore trench and the post burial of the offshore 2.2km section using the L&M TMV  trenching machine.  Ancillary work included the laying of a 1km landline linking the sealine to the existing tank farm.

Engineering and River Crossing

Project Management and supervision of main contractor for the installation of a 890m x 1060mm dia steel gas pipeline crossing of the Mindola river.  Work included dredging, bottom pull of pipeline into position and backfilling.

Submarine Outfalls and Intakes

Installation of chlorination pipes within 6 No power station and desalination plant water intake pipes.  Each intake had a 90mm HDPE pipe installed with lengths varying between 600m to 1 km.

Turnkey survey, design, procurement fabrication and commissioning of a 609mm dia x 7km liquid fuel land pipeline forming part of an export scheme at Hazira.

Engineering and Inter Island Estuary Crossing

Installation of a 4.2km x 305mm dia HDPE pipeline crossing in shallow water.  The pipes were welded and floated into a pre-dredged trench, and the pipeline finally stabilised by attaching concrete weight rings.

Engineering, Pipeline and River Crossing

Construction of a fuel supply pipeline across Dubai City to the airport terminal.  The 12km 200mm diameter welded steel pipeline is epoxy lined internally, polyethylene coated externally and protected by an impressed current cathodic protection system.  The contract includes the 400m crossing of the Deira Creek with the pipeline weight coated and buried 2m below the creek bed in water depths of up to 8m.

Inter Island, River and Estuary Crossing

Reinstatement-alignment of an existing gas pipeline.  Harbour channels were to be deepened, necessitating the installation of a new pipeline to be placed at a lower level.  Two lengths of 609mm dia mild steel pipeline 1.3km and 1.7km were pulled into position by land based winches.  Contract included one underwater hyperbaric welding procedure

Engineering and Submarine Outfalls

Construction of two long sea outfalls each 1.5m dia, 1.5km and 2km long respectively.  Pipelines constructed from R.C. pipes and laid in pre-dredged trenchs with rock dumpling stabilisation.  Works also included extensive blasting of trenches in rocky areas, construction of rock causeways and construction of a pipe factory for manufacturing of spun concrete R.C. spigot and socket pipes.
